New research published in Nature Auging found that taking two common supplements while receiving regular exercises forms a powerful anti -aging combination.
Even better, the study suggests that this super harsh trifle not only extends your life, but also increases its quality by reducing the risk of age -related health issues and improving the overall well -being of the elderly.
They all have two ages: chronological and biological.
Chronological age is simply the number of years you have been alive, while the biological age measures how time has affected your body at a molecular level.
This means that two people born on the same day can have different biological eras in different ways over time, depending on their health, lifestyle and genetics. When bioackers and longevity enthusiasts talk about the return of the clock, they are referring to biological age.
For the study, the researchers analyzed data from the Do-Health court, which tracked the elderly in the five European countries from 2012 to 2014.
Previous studies have shown that omega-3s, vitamin D and regular exercise can reduce the risk of infections, fall, cancer and weakness.
“These results inspired us to measure the direct impact of these three therapies on the process of biological aging on Swiss health participants,” Heike Bischoff-Ferrari, the leading researcher of the study and a professor at the University of Zurich, said in a statement.
To do this, the team reviewed data from 777 participants aged 70 and older, who were randomly assigned to receive either a placebo; Omega-3, vitamin D and exercise alone; or those three things in combination.
While there is no perfect way to measure biological age, researchers collected blood samples at the beginning of the study and again three years later. Samples were analyzed using four epigenetic hours, which follow biological age through changes in DNA methylation.
Researchers found that only Omega-3s slowed biological aging in three of the four epigenetic hours, regardless of the gender of participants, chronological age or body mass index.
But the combination of all three interventions showed the most significant benefits.
One of the hours, Fenoage, found that older adults who consumed 1 gram omega-3s and 2,000 international units (IU) of vitamin D per day, in cooperation with regular exercises, slowed their biological aging by three to four months over three years.
Researchers also found that the combination reduced the risk of premature weakness among participants with 39% and invasive cancer with 61%.
“This supports these three public health strategies as a combined solution in the level of public health to extend the health space in older adults,” said Dr. Steve Horvath, another major researcher in the study, said Today News News.
“Further, these strategies are affordable and safe as shown in health during a three-year pursuit.”
Researchers say further study is needed to prove that slowing molecular aging actually leads to a longer life. They noted some major restrictions on their study, such as the lack of a standardized mass for biological aging, and the fact that DNA methylation only catches some of the biological changes associated with aging.
They also noticed that the study sample was entirely composed of Swiss participants. The team plans to expand their analysis to include health participants from Germany, France, Austria and Portugal, to get a wider view that includes a wider range of genetics and lifestyle.
